Tough Questions

  • Can I go straight into the SAS?

The Special Air Service is the principal special forces unit of the British Army. To qualify you must meet a very demanding physical and mental selection process and entry is only open to those already serving in the Army.

  • Do soldiers living overseas get paid more?

Your basic pay depends on rank and trade qualifications and remains the same if you're serving overseas. However, due to the difference in the cost of living in some countries you may get an extra allowance to offset extra costs.

  • Will I get to travel the world in the Army?

The Army currently serves in 56 countries and if you join there's a good chance you'll get to see quite a few of them. There is also the opportunity for sponsored adventure training and sporting activities abroad.

  • Will I have to go to war and if so will I have to kill?

As a member of the Army you may be required to carry out operational duties around the world which may involve
    hostile conflicts.
