Broaden your horizons
Your Army skills will be in demand right around the world - so the world is where you'll be going. Whether it's on adventurous training in the jungle keeping the peace in a war-torn country or in combat, you'll gain experiences few people can imagine. Army life involves working alongside people from different backgrounds and nationalities, so when you are not on active duty, you'll be able to explore your new surroundings and learn about life in different cultures.
As well as making new friends, you'll have plenty of time to see old mates too - generous annual leave means there's no danger of losing touch with your existing friends and family.
Time-off
Regular Officers and Soldiers
In addition to weekends and bank holidays, Regular soldiers and officers enjoy 38 days of paid leave per year - more than what is offered by companies in industry and commerce. Working hours are typically 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday, unless you're on training exercise or on operations. You may have to work on Bank Holidays, but this is reflected in your high annual leave entitlement. Your evenings and weekends are usually free.
Operational leave
When you are deployed on six-month operational tours, in addition to being given pre-tour leave, you will be flown home, at no personal cost, for two weeks mid-tour. You will also be given an additional post-operational tour leave on your return home, subject to operational commitments. While most young officers and soldiers eagerly look forward to operational tours, none of this is taken out of your six-week annual leave allowance.
Territorial Army
You will be given leave dependent on your operational tour, as well as receiving opportunities to travel as part of Adventurous Training during weekend exercises and annual camps.
