B Squadron, The Royal Yeomanry
About us
Our TA Unit is Leicester’s only squadron of Royal Armoured Corp part-time soldiers – a squadron with a distinguished history of serving Britain all over the world.
As part of the Royal Armoured Corp, all jobs in B Squadron are based around the ‘sabre’ (fighting) troop of vehicles – operating in the vital Force Reconnaissance (FR) role. That means we go out and look for the enemy; sometimes in armoured vehicles or land-rovers – often calling in air-strikes. Sometimes we wait for nightfall, then go quietly on foot.
B Squadron soldiers learn to drive all manner of vehicles, use the latest weapons and up-to-the minute military radios, and detect and deal with the effects of Chemical, Biological, Radiation & Nuclear (CBRN) weapons. And we always need – and train – radio operators, medics, clerks, HGV drivers, recruiting staff, physical trainers and much more.
It’s an exciting job – and an excellent opportunity to make friends for life and take part in exercises and operations in the UK and abroad.
