The Army has three colleges: the Army Foundation College in Harrogate, the Army Training Regiment at Bassingbourn and Welbeck - The Defence Sixth Form College. Apart from Welbeck, you'll be paid from the start and whichever college you attend, you'll gain the confidence needed to lead others in one of the most challenging careers there is.
The Army Foundation College
The Army Foundation College (AFC) at Harrogate offers a 42-week course for school-leavers. You can train to become a combat or technical soldier in anything from the Infantry to the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. It's tough, but there are breaks along the way. And education Army-style means you won't be stuck in a classroom for hours every day - you'll often be out in realistic soldiering situations or doing adventurous training and sport.

Army Technical Foundation College
The Army Technical Foundation College (ATFC) at Winchester in Hampshire turns school-leavers into soldiers. In 24 weeks, you'll learn core military and vocational skills for a variety of the Army's regiments and corps. You will also get recognised industry qualifications and will undertake programmes to improve numeracy and literacy. In short, everything you need to make the best start in your chosen Army job.

Welbeck - The Defence Sixth Form College Welbeck, near Loughborough, is a Quad-Service (Royal Navy, Army, Royal Air Force and MOD Civil Service) residential sixth-form college offering a two-year A level education, combined with personal development and physical training. After Welbeck, students go on to university on a generous technical bursary, before joining the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst to set themselves up for a career as an officer in one of the Army's technical corps.
