Challenge

Taking on challenges is a key part of being an officer. Your training can be a challenge in itself, testing you mentally as well as physically. Sometimes it’ll be tough but the aim is to prepare you for the central challenge of your Army career – leading soldiers.

In your first job you’ll probably take command of about 30 soldiers. It’ll be up to you to make sure that they’re a highly trained and effective team. As part of this you’ll help look after their welfare, providing help and support with family problems or financial worries.

As well as the challenges that go with the job there are others you can choose for yourself. You might be able to go mountain climbing in the Alps or learn a new sport.

You won’t face any of these challenges alone. Other officers and senior soldiers will be on hand to give you expert advice, so there’s always someone to talk to.

Your first challenge as a would-be Army officer is to pass selection.
