As an Army officer you’ll keep learning throughout your career. You start with officer training that helps you apply your skills in a military context and teaches you some new ones.
You’ll learn how to communicate quickly and clearly, even when you’re under pressure. You’ll learn how to brief your soldiers and senior officers, and how to liaise with civilian populations – a vital skill when you deploy on humanitarian and peace support operations.
Each time you get promoted you’ll do further courses to prepare you for the challenges of the new job, whether it involves leading more soldiers or working with a different type of unit in a different role.
Not everything you learn will be connected to your role. You’ll also be able to learn new sports and get leadership qualifications in a range of adventurous activities, such as mountaineering.
Whether you want to serve full-time as a Regular or in your spare time as a Territorial, going to the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst is a key stage on your journey to becoming an officer.
