Tough Questions

  • Will I get to travel the world in the Army?

The Army currently serves in 56 countries and if you join there's a good chance you'll get to see quite a few of them. There is also the opportunity for sponsored adventure training and sporting activities abroad.

Lifelong Learning

Looking ahead
In an age of rapid technological development, the Army's role involves increasingly sophisticated techniques for managing people, equipment and materials. The Army needs men and women to plan and control its activities at all levels - and that's why we're committed to the learning and development of every officer and soldier.

Our education programme

The Army's education programme, Learning Forces Initiative, is in line with the Government's Lifelong Learning Policy. As a new recruit, you will not only have the opportunity to gain professional qualifications and study a degree, but you will also go on to undertake many courses of your own choosing to develop your career.

The Education & Training Services branch of the Adjutant General's Corps has over 300 officers involved in training. Each holds a Postgraduate Certificate of education and teaches skills at one of the 100 Army Education Centres around the world.

You will also be issued with a Personal Development Record (PDR) which allows you to map your career against recognised career and personal goals. Professional careers advice is available at all times to discuss any course you would like to take.

Professional qualifications
There is more flexibility than ever before to study in today's Army. You can gain an impressive range of professional qualifications in areas such as healthcare, languages, management, accountancy, engineering and human resources. Many of these are accredited by professional bodies such as the Chartered Management Institute and Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, and will make you very employable in the civilian world.

Your future
The Army takes an all-round approach to your learning and development, so you know whatever job you take on, military or civilian, you will always have the skills to do it - and do it well.
