  • How do you turn students into soldiers?

  • How fit do I need to be?

    Let's be clear, physical fitness is important in every Army role. But don't be put off - the progressive training you receive is designed to prepare you for the challenges ahead. That said you must also help yourself by exercising regularly well before you arrive. The fitter you are the easier you will find the training.

  • How old do I have to be?

    For soldiers, you have to be aged 15 years and 7 months to apply. You can then be enlisted in the September at age 16 after your GCSE exams.

    Most roles have a maximum age limit of 33 but some such as nursing and musicians are higher.

    Officers as a general rule should be aged over 17 years and 9 months and under 29 when they apply.

    Definitely. The Army encourages all its soldiers to get involved in sporting activity both for their fitness and to build team spirit. It's a fact that many national sporting stars have served in the British Army.

OK, so you're not quite old enough to join the Army, but if the idea is starting to interest you, there are lots of ways you can get involved now to see whether a military life might be for you. Now is also a great time to start thinking about some of the college and university options you can take advantage of through the Army.
