    Regiments

    Here’s a brief introduction to some of the regiments we recruit for in the North East. You can find out more about these, and the opportunities within other regiments right across the UK, at your local careers office.


                                                    
    The Yorkshire Regiment The Yorkshire Regiment is a much-awarded Infantry force with a 300-year heritage of Yorkshire fighting spirit – based on regional pride, professionalism and bravery. Today’s ‘Yorkshire Warriors’ are skilled in Light Infantry and Armoured Infantry roles – providing a huge battlefield capability, including Warrior Infantry Fighting Vehicles for extra mobility and firepower.

    Royal Regiment of Fusiliers The Fusiliers are a two-battalion Infantry regiment. The 1st Battalion are equipped with the WARRIOR Armoured Infantry Fighting Vehicle and are skilled in the complex demands of fast moving armoured warfare, while the 2nd Battalion are a Light Role battalion with the ability to deploy quickly and adapt to any local situation. Whether keeping the peace in the Balkans or engaged in close combat in Afghanistan the Fusiliers have proved more than able to meet all that has been asked of them and more.

    The Rifles The Rifles The Rifles is the largest infantry regiment in the army. It is made up of battalions covering the light, mechanised and armoured infantry roles including 1st Battalion The Rifles is a part of the Royal Marines' 3 Commando Brigade along with 29 Commando Royal Artillery. Jobs within the Rifles range from gunner to crewing a Warrior Infantry Fighting vehicle.

    The Parachute Regiment The Parachute Regiment The Parachute Regiment is the Airborne Infantry element of the British Army. Its role requires its soldiers to operate with minimal or no support behind enemy lines and against numerically superior forces. It forms the Airborne Infantry element of 16 Air Assault Brigade.

    1st Battalion Coldstream Guards The Coldstream Guards are part of the Guards Division, or Household Division, and are distinguished as the oldest Regiment of the Army in continuous active service – having formed in 1650. Famous for carrying out their many State Ceremonial duties such as Trooping The Colour, its soldiers are, first and foremost, professional Infantry – trained to the highest standards in modern weapons and equipment. As well as operating on ‘conventional’ battlefronts, Coldstream Guardsmen perform peace-keeping roles for the United Nations, patrol in jungle and desert, and are involved in the fight against terrorism.     1st Battalion Scots Guards The Scots Guards is the third Regiment of Foot Guards in the Guards Division, and the original bodyguard of King Charles I in 1642. Ever proud of their service, loyalty and hard-won reputation as fighting soldiers, today’s Scots Guardsmen are all-round Armoured Infantry soldiers whose skills can include mortar, reconnaissance or sniper capabilities – as well as their State and Ceremonial duties in London.

    The Royal Regiment of Scotland  The Royal Regiment of Scotland The Royal Regiment of Scotland is the modern embodiment of some of the most famous fighting regiments of modern history.  The original 14 Regiments which today form the Royal Regiment of Scotland were raised in Scotland in the 17th and 18th centuries.  The Scottish regiments have had a strong sense of family with generations following generations into the ranks.

    The Household Cavalry and The Royal Armoured Corps The Regiments of the Household Cavalry and Royal Armoured Corps today are descendants of the famous Cavalry Regiments who rode into battle on horseback as heavy or light horsemen; and of the Royal Tank Regiment who manned the first tanks during the Great War.

    The Royal Dragoon Guards The Royal Dragoon Guards formed on 1st August 1992 as a result of the amalgamation of the 4th/7th Royal Dragoon Guards and the 5th Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards. As both these were in their turn the results of earlier amalgamations in the 1920s. The Royal Dragoon Guards now carries with it the traditions and history of four of the finest regiments in the British Cavalry: the 4th Royal Irish Dragoon Guards, the 5th Dragoon Guards, the 7th Dragoon Guards and the 6th Inniskilling Dragoons.

    The Royal Artillery The Royal Artillery supplies the army's firepower. We are responsible for 'shock and awe' on the battle field. We are a combat arm and work closely with tanks, infantry and attack helicopters.  We serve aboard ships from the Royal Navy and we also direct attack aircraft of the Royal Air Force to engage our targets.

    Army Air Corps The Army Air Corps is a powerful and effective force which provides information and firepower to ensure the success of any mission. The Army Air Corps can trace its history from the Balloon Section of the 1880s, developing into the Royal Flying Corps of the First World War through to the famous Glider Pilot Regiment and Air Observation Squadrons of the Second World War before the advent of the helicopter shaped the modern, flexible force the Corps has become today.

    Corps of Royal Engineers The Royal Engineers serve all over the world as recognised by their unique motto "Ubique", which means everywhere. All Royal Engineers are soldiers first. They are also combat engineers and tradesmen.

    Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers The British Army is a professional, high-tech organisation. Around the world it employs a range of mechanical, electrical and electronic equipment to achieve its objectives. From rifles to rocket launchers, motorcycles to main battle tanks, the Army's effectiveness depends on its equipment being fit and ready to go at a moment's notice. The Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) make sure that it is. Wherever the Army is operating, REME ensures the equipment so many rely upon is working to maximum effect.

    Royal Logistic Corps The Royal Logistic Corps is the power behind the Army. In peacetime and on operations it provides essential logistic support and services to ensure the British Army can function effectively and efficiently, wherever it is in the world.

    Royal Corps of Signals The Royal Signals are leaders in Information Technology and Communications for the British Army.  We provide the Army with communications throughout the World and promise a varied and exciting career.

    The Intelligence Corps The Intelligence Corps is the brains of the Army, processing data to help commanders make the best tactical decisions. The Corps predicts what the enemy is going to do, while safeguarding our secrets and preventing the enemy from being able to predict what we are going to do. These core disciplines are Operational Intelligence and Counter Intelligence.

    Adjutant General's Corps The Adjutant General's Corps is one of the largest Corps in the British Army and provides support in the form of Combat Human Resources Specialists, Military Police, Military Provost Staff, Military Provost Guard Service, Educational and Training Services and Army Legal Services.

    Army Medical Services The Army Medical Services work at locations around the world to ensure integral medical support wherever the British Army operates. It is responsible for advising commanders on the maintenance of health and prevention of disease in the Army in peace times as well as the collection, medical classification, evacuation and treatment of the sick and wounded in war.

    Corps of Army Music There are 22 regular bands plus the Band of The Brigade of Gurkhas located across the UK and they are available to support the Armed Forces, associated charities and civilian events anywhere in the world. The Corps of Army Music has a wealth of talent and each band will have something different to offer.
