Army Careers Exhibition

The Army Careers Exhibition North West, ACE NW, is being held at Altcar Training Camp near Formby from 6th  9th  Oct 2009.

The Exhibition is designed to offer teachers, tutors and students an insight into the wide range of employment, career opportunities and entry levels available in the Regular Army and Territorial Army as well as a taste of the ethos of the Service and the lifestyle opportunities. It is not be restricted to those who already show an interest in a military career, as we wish to give a broader cross section a factual base for career decision making in the coming years. Even if students have no interest in a service career, this experience could make them better informed citizens and taxpayers of the future. Follow the link for a video fully explaining the event.

The event is aimed at Years 9, 10 and 11, sixth form students and students from colleges of further education. There will be a wide range of activities for students to take part in, as well as a variety of displays to watch and military equipment on show during a fun and interest packed day. You should note that only students from years 9, 10 and 11 may enter the obstacle course competition on the Tues, Weds and Fri, the Thurs is exclusively for 6th Form/FE Colleges, years 12/13.

The exhibition is open between 10.00 am and 2.30 pm each day to enable school parties to arrive and depart in good time within the academic day. The Army will arrange for payment and hire of their coach/coaches; on receipt of a transport request. There will be a teachers briefing in the "Teachers' Retreat", The Altcar Camp Sergeants Mess, and, whilst we ask pupils to bring a picnic lunch, we will provide accompanying teachers with a free buffet lunch in the Officers Mess. There will be plenty of cover around the arena in case of rain but students are advised to wear appropriate dress for an outdoor activity in the autumn.

This year in addition to the usual wide range of activities there will be an on site interactive gaming stand related to the Army’s ‘Start Thinking Soldier’ campaign. Any students who are already players will be priority users for live missions on the day. In the meantime please encourage other students to get logged on via www.armyjobs.mod.uk and click the link Start Thinking Soldier, or click here for access to this excellent game or for more information on Start Thinking Soldier click here.

For those students not contemplating a military career, there will be plenty of relevant activities to experience in the fields of Combat, Engineering, Logistics, IT/Comms, HR/Admin & Finance, Healthcare, Ceremonial and Army Music. We are certain, that it will be a great deal of fun.
