TA

If you’re interested in the Army but don’t want to make it your full time job, the Territorial Army (TA) could be ideal.

The TA trains you to be a soldier or officer in your free time. It’s a chance to get fitter than ever before, meet some great new friends, learn new skills, take up new challenges – and get paid at the same time!

As a TA officer, you’ll experience training at Sandhurst – which could give you a leg-up in your career. In fact, any role in the TA can really help your job prospects. Employers will see you’re keen to learn new skills and know how to work as a team.

Your training can be translated into vocational or professional qualifications. And if you already have professional experience or specialist skills - in nursing, management, engineering or  a whole range of other areas - you can join a TA Specialist Unit.

The TA is paid on the same scale as full-time soldiers or officers, and earns an annual tax-free bonus.

You need to be at least 17. To start with, you join for 3 years, though most people stay a lot longer. You’ll spend anything from 19 to 27 days every year with the TA, depending on the Unit you join.

To find out more, call in for a chat at your local careers office. Better still, get yourself along to your nearest TA training night. You’ll be able to see exactly what it’s like, ask as many questions as you want and decide if the TA’s for you.
