Military Preparation College
The Military Preparation College is a partnership between the Learning and Skills Council, the College itself and the military. Courses are run by a mix of ex-Service personnel and serving soldiers using tried and tested methods from the British Army, Royal Navy, RAF and Royal Marines.
Founded originally in Wales by Huw Lewis (a former Royal Welch Fusilier), the Military Preparation College has proved to be hugely successful and very popular. It has been running for ten years and is expanding across the country to cope with demand. Courses are now available in England specifically in Portsmouth, Brighton and Southampton. Its aim is to provide high quality training to help realise the potential of young men and women interested in joining the Armed Forces. Teamwork, personal pride, physical and mental robustness, duty, community spirit, confidence and humility are the qualities that the College endeavours to teach its students. By using a holistic approach to training and focusing on essential skills for employment, students learn that they are able to achieve their goals.
All students on the course require no prior experience, fitness or qualifications. The only requirements the College asks for are effort, a determination to succeed and respect for others
The College motto is:
By failing to prepare you are preparing to fail.
By starting or even completing the course, there is no obligation to join the Armed Forces – however it might be that after this ‘taster’ you decide – this is for me!
If you are aged between 16 and 19 and interested in joining or just want more information visit the website www.militarypreparationcollege.co.uk, alternatively speak to a careers adviser at your school.
