Roles and Regiments

In an area spanning the Home Counties, West Sussex, East Sussex, Surrey, Kent and even the Garrison in Brunei – our region is home to two brigades: 2 (South East) Brigade and 145 (Home Counties) Brigade.

A major part of the capability of the Army’s 4th Division, our mission is to provide highly trained full-time (Regular) soldiers and part-time (Territorial Army) soldiers and Units. In Infantry, medical support, transport, logistics and many other roles, our soldiers are constantly being deployed to Army Operations worldwide.

Often, our aim is to help build a safer world through peacekeeping and humanitarian missions in places such as the Balkans, the Gulf, East Timor, Iraq and Afghanistan.

On our own ground, we also support civilian agencies; liaising with the police and ambulance services in emergencies such as flooding and storms, major fires and terrorist alerts.

Home to units such as 7th Battalion Rifles Regiment and regiments such as The Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment – ‘The Pride of the South’ – we have strong links to local towns and people. And we cover the entire range of military roles, including: engineers, IT specialists, logisticians, doctors, chefs, stores personnel, mechanics… and many more.
